System Requirements

Installation:

Q: Help! NeedleTrax won't install!

A: Make sure you aren't running any programs in the background during installation, this includes your Microsoft Office toolbar, antivirus software, etc. If you continue to have problems, please contact me.

Navigation:

Q: It takes FOREVER to get from screen to screen in NeedleTrax. Is there any way to move around more quickly? I also hate looking at the intro screens all the time.

A: You are having a problem with navigating in NeedleTrax because you are using the 'x' in the upper right hand corner of the screen to close your window. That 'x' closes the program, not the window. Please use the CLOSE button in the upper right hand section of your screen instead. You will find the program operates much more effectively this way.

Projects:

Q: NeedleTrax is now installed and of course, I wanted to update it with my old files....In doing so I really confused the poor darling! I take it I have to enter the yarn, needles and publications I had used into a database BEFORE I can update the diary?

A: NeedleTrax Projects is much more than a diary. It is an actual inventory system. And, by being this type of system, it reduces your data entry because you don't have to re-type yarn, needles, books, etc. Once you have entered them into inventory (Add/Update Masterfiles), yarn, needles, books, are made available in the Project section so you can select them via the pull down lists or by typing just the first few letters. On Screen 3 of Projects you can actually assign a yarn to the project and indicate the quantity used. NeedleTrax will calculate your remaining yarn balance and keep that balance available for use in other projects.

Q: I am disappointed that NeedleTrax doesn't maintain fields I need. I need to see what yarn I'm using for a project on the Add Project screen and it doesn't show that, only in the report. Also, there is no place for gauge as that may differ from the gauge given for that yarn wt. And there is no place to show how much yarn was actually used or a notes section for alterations to the project that may differ from the pattern. This information is really important. Why isn't it there?

A: There are 3 screens in the project section. You will see file folder "Tabs" in the middle of the screen. Each project you create has these 3 screens available for information.

Screen One has the basic information on the project. Publication, project name, page number, etc.. Project gauge appears on this screen.

Screen Two has a place for additional information like when then project started and ended, who it was for and a large notes section.

Screen Three will list all the yarns assigned to the project, name, color, amount used and the remaining balance.

Take a look at the 3 tabs, I believe they include everything you asked about.

Books/Patterns:

Q: When I entered Kinzel's First Book of Lace Knitting the auto fill showed the wrong author.

A: Make sure you enter each new Book, Yarn, Fiber, Needle, and Project on a blank screen. In this case, I believe you entered a book and then changed its title to a different book. This leaves the old information for Author, Publication Date, etc. in place.

You can go to a new record by clicking "Add New" at the top of the screen, by tabbing through the current screen until a completely clean screen appears or by clicking on the symbol at the bottom left part of your screen which looks like this

The publications list came from the Library of Congress book list on the internet. It is unlikely, but still possible for there to be an error in the listing. If you do find one, you can edit the publication listing under the third menu option, Add/Update Masterfiles. This does not change any books that you have entered into Add/Update My Books and Patterns. It will only impact future books that are entered.
