Creative Guide to Knitted Lace

Excellent three-color diagrams teach you all the techniques you need to know from cast on to blocking and finishing. You learn knitting terms, care of knits and needle conversion. Ten super projects whet your appetite, including a portable bedspread of 168 motifs, sachets and trims and insertions for handkerchiefs, pillows, tablecloths and more. A bonus is 23 extra motifs -- try one in the shawl.

Lace from the Attic

Briefly, an old leather notebook of knitted lace samples is left in an attic, then years later rescued from the trash, and entrusted to the author who has painstakingly "translated" the instructions into modern knitting terms. This is a treasure for all lace fanciers. The author has provided for both charts and written-out instructions. Most patterns are lace edgings of various widths with a few circular doilies and circular edgings, rectangular scarves and three baby sets. Each piece is shown in black & white photos. Some readers may need to enlarge the charts somewhat.

Traditional Knitted Lace Shawls

Fine knitted lace shawls are about as high a form of human adornment as can be conceived. The source is rather vague. The history clouded by the fact that knitting was such a 'common' craft in its birth place. The patterns weren't even written until the mid-19th century. But the tradition is carried forward by this comprehensive study of the knitted lace of the British Isles. Full of history, lore, patterns, instructions, even wearing styles, this book will satisfy your curiosity of these shawls loved by Queen Victoria, collected in museums, and the delight of many knitters.
